YOUR FILM on the big screen!

October 12th @ The Historic Regent Theater, Yarram VIC

Gippsland is a 16,000 square mile (41,000km) region of southern Australia which is made up of merely 270,000 people. It is often overlooked because of these numbers, but we have a feeling there’s plenty of talented filmmakers residing in the Gipps area.

So let’s find out during Yarram’s first local short film screening!

The Sitch

Whether you have a finished film or are making one for this screening. Here are some things you need to know;

  • 5 minutes or less! If your existing film is longer, find a creative way to cut it down before submitting
  • No copyrighted music. Save yourself the heartache, use free music from the resources below instead 🙂
  • No severe language, nudity, etc. We appreciate art, but we won’t include your film if it’s a bit too much for an all-ages audience

Music Resources

Legally, we are not permitted to screen films with copyrighted music in The Regent. Here are your safe-for-screen options;

  • Kevin MacLeod, the original royalty free music master
  • YouTube Audio Library, with an account you have access to a huge selection that will fit your vibe
  • MUSOPEN, including all the classical music faves
  • FreePD, bit older design but gets the job done

Editing & Delivery

You can be a seasoned filmmaker, or a first-timer. Either way, you’re good. Below are some resources for the filmmaking process to help you get yours to the finish line. In order to submit your films to us, make sure you mind the exporting for web process out of your chosen editing application. More info on that below the videos.

Exporting for web

To ensure quick and easy playback in the theater, we are asking for MP4 web exports under 2GB! Sounds daunting, but for 5 minutes or less, not that big of a deal once you know what you’re doing. Here are some resources for exporting from an assortment of programs and also a magic one that can compress anything you throw at it.

  • More about exporting with Davinci Resolve
  • Exporting with a mobile app is pretty simple as well
  • The magic bullet! HandBrake can compress pretty much any file. So, if this seems easier, here’s a tutorial

Submitting to us!

Last but not least. Final step is getting this thing to us so we can bask in its glory. Don’t forget, files need to be under 2GB. Here is the Google Form to fill out. See you at The Regent October 12th!

COPYRIGHTED MUSIC: You are not permitted to include any copyrighted music or performance in your movie without a release from all copyright holders of the music. We hate having to disqualify great films because of copyright issues, but unfortunately, if your movie contains any copyrighted material we will be forced to immediately remove it from competition and from viewing on trustydigitalmedia.com. You are also welcome to create your own music, but remember it must be original — copyrighted music performed by you is still copyrighted and cannot be used without the release mentioned above. It is also a copyright violation to create your own alternate or cover version of an existing song without express written permission from the copyright holders.

TRADEMARKS: You are strongly discouraged from including any trademarks (logos, symbols, characters, etc) in your films. Please be very careful — the use of any trademark at all may legally force us to disqualify your movie and/or prevent your movie from being screened. If we are contacted by the rights holder (which
is more likely to occur when a trademark is used negatively), your movie cannot be screened and will be removed from competition.

OTHER COPYRIGHTS: In addition to the music copyright guidelines above, you are not permitted to use any copyrighted material of any kind in your films. Please be very careful — the use of any copyrighted material at all may legally force us to disqualify your movie and/or prevent your movie from being screened. Copyrighted material includes, but is not limited to: movie clips, television clips, audio clips, video game
clips, books, magazines, logos, and artwork. Even featuring just the image of an item that is copyrighted (like the cover of a book) can violate the law so please be extremely cautious to protect yourself. Copyrighted audio also includes audio that might be in the background of your scene that is coming from from a television or film, video games, or even a radio or stereo in the room or in a car.

NUDITY: Nudity is not permitted. We considers nudity to include images of genitals, fully exposed buttocks, or images of female breasts if they include the nipples.

DANGEROUS BEHAVIOR: It is absolutely prohibited for any participant to engage in dangerous, reckless, illegal, or otherwise negligent behavior in any aspect of the creation of your movie. Any such behavior will lead to immediate disqualification from the competition.

OTHER WEBSITES & FESTIVALS: We don’t own your film. Share it wherever you’d like. If you’d like it taken down from trustydigitalmedia.com please give us an email or DM on Instagram.
